Workshops and 1-to-1 Instruction

Group Workshops

I love to teach! I offer landscape photography workshops, from right here in the Pacific Northwest to locations all over the world. My workshops are always smaller groups (think 4-8 attendees) to ensure you get the attention and instruction you need to come away with amazing photos.  Workshops over 4 days long always include lodging, ground transportation with airport pickup, park entry fees, and snacks for our time driving between locations.

Shorter, local workshops here in the PNW include instruction only. If you are attending one that has an option for multiple days I can recommend lodging near our shooting location.

Fees are based on minimum number of participants. Spouses or significant others (non-photographers) are welcome on some workshops at a reduced cost, depending on available space.  Contact me for more information.

To be notified when new workshops are announced, be sure to sign up for my newsletter! I promise not to spam you over and over.

One-on-One

If a multiple day workshop is more than you want, or you're visiting the Portland/Vancouver area and would like to spend a morning or day shooting with me, I can tailor a session just for you. Waterfalls, mountains, volcanoes, forests, and gardens are all at our doorstep.

Testimonials

Nancy S.

“James is highly knowledgeable in both LR & PS. He’s professional, articulate, and a great educator. He was able to teach not only basics but many shortcuts & efficient workflow ideas.”

Doug G.

“This Fall Colors Workshop in Leavenworth WA far exceeded my expectations! Four amazing days of early-day shooting, mid-day editing, and more sunset shooting opportunities. James is a motivating teacher/coach who personalizes his helpful hints and suggestions for each participant, whether novice, like me, to expert level where his creativity abounds. James is a resource for all who enjoy photography and who want to hone their skills. This workshop was equally informative…motivating…and inspirational, all in one package!”

Libby S.

“The Fall Workshop in Leavenworth, Washington was a perfect place to capture the fall colors as well as the quaint town during Octoberfest.  James’s level of enthusiasm and desire to teach is truly infectious.  He makes you excited to get up early to catch a sunrise or stay late to catch the best light for a sunset.  He keeps his groups small so he can provide each participant individual assistance with camera settings and composition.  In between photo sessions, James schedules time for post processing instruction with Lightroom and Photoshop.  James always wants to be sure that you get the very most out of his workshops. I really appreciate the time and effort that he spends on finding uniquely special places.

In addition to this workshop, I have attended two other workshops- Oregon Coast and Utah/Arizona National Parks.  I highly recommend attending any of his workshops. You will be impressed with his quality of instruction both as it relates to the use of your camera to produce “print worthy” images as well as the post processing workflow tutorials.”

Rhonda B.

“This was my second workshop with James in 2022. I loved them both. There is always so much to learn. We shoot sunrises and sunsets and work on post processing midday when the sun is harsh. My takeaways are some print worthy photographs and the desire to return for another workshop! If you’ve never attended one; I highly suggest that you do. James takes small groups so each person gets individual attention and he works with all skill levels!”

Kate S.

“James has a great talent for working with photographers to get the shot they are after! I was one of the members of a tour he led to Hawaii in February, (how great is that!), and couldn’t be happier with the entire experience! James was clear on the intent of the shoot, (morning sunrise, surfer action, Volcano National Park, waterfalls, etc.), and James was so comfortable with each location! He had great pointers for getting more detail in your shot without losing focus. I learned a lot about setting up my composition, leading lines, as well as setting up bracketed shots and post-processing tips. My money and time were well spent!”

"I recently had the opportunity to participate in a marvelous photography tour of the Oregon Coast with James Parker.  The seascapes on the coast are breathtaking with one vista after another.  Working with James to capture images of these marvelous scenes was a pleasure.  He was patient and helpful with photo tips and guidance and made this a most memorable tour for me.  I'd highly recommend travelling with James if you want to have a great photography adventure."

Sue B.

“Your Hawaii workshop was outstanding.  I became use to you walking behind us, peaking over our shoulders to see the camera angles and screens, and offering suggestions as you looked to see what we captured.  There aren't too many bad places to photograph in Hawaii, but it was good to see you actively seeking out the best current locations.  And I appreciate that you took the time to take a few of us 'birders' to a nature sanctuary so we could get our fill of the wildlife on this landscape workshop!”

Pam B.

“I had a fabulous experience in Hawaii on a photography trip/workshop with James Parker Photography.  James found the perfect locations for us to shoot in order to capture the beauty of this picturesque location.  James was able to find secluded locations off the beaten path which allowed us to photograph without massive crowds.  He is a master of light and composition and his teaching style is very educational without being overbearing.  I enjoyed seeing images that James created during our workshop and he shared his Lightroom tips for polishing our images.  Above all, we had fun with the workshop and I highly recommend an experience with James Parker photography!”
